December 19th

Students watched a video titled "Measuring Math" which demonstrated how to measure different ingredients and the importance of measuring correctly. The students will demonstrate what they learned when measuring out ingredients in future cooking labs.

December 18th

Students were introduced to the foods lab and where told lab expectations and rules, as well as how labs are run and where different things are the lab. Their first cooking lab is on Monday, January 5th and is the fruit freeze.

We finished discussing food safety today by reviewing the top ten mistakes people make when preparing food at home and what the students can do to prevent these mistakes from occurring.

December 16th

Students were reminded about the open sewing lab today and tomorrow after school to finish their locker pocket projects. They were also reminded about the deadline for extra credit and late work is January 9th. No late work or extra credit will be accepted after this date. Students started learning about food borne illnesses and food safety. They watched "The Great Food Fight" and answered some questions, which we then went over in detail afterward. We will continue this tomorrow.

December 15th

Most of the students watched a video about how cotton fibers are made in to fabrics and what woven, knitted and non-woven fabrics are. While most of the students did this, the few other students who needed to finish their locker pockets were able to do so in another area of the room.

December 12th

Students had one last day in the sewing lab today to finish their locker pocket projects and sewing permits. If a student did not finish, they must now come after school either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week to finish. 1st period will have one more day on Monday to finish their Locker Pockets since they missed one sewing day due to an assembly.

December 11th

Today was the second to the last day students will be in the sewing lab except for 1st period. Locker Pockets are due tomorrow (Friday) by the end of the class period. As students finished their project they were given a choice of things to do. They could help someone else, do an extra credit crossword puzzle on the parts of the sewing machine, read their reading books or work on homework.

December 10th

Students had the whole class period to work on their locker pockets and finish their sewing permits. Some students will finish their locker pockets tomorrow, but most will finish these on Thursday or Friday. The sewing permits are due Thursday at the end of the class period.

December 9th

All of the CTE Intro classes watched the teacher demonstration on how to do their locker pocket project. Many students turned in their CTE sewing permits and started on their locker pocket projects. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by the end of class on Thursday at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

Students learned how to use the rotary cutters, mats and sergers. Afterwards, they had the rest of class to work on their bookmarks. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by Thursday at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

Students reviewed how to thread a machine and then started on their bookmarks. Detailed instructions were provided as well as a teacher demonstration. They will continue these on Friday. Today was also the last day they could retake the "Parts of the sewing machine" quiz. We have offered quiz retakes every day after school this past week.

Decenber 3rd

The students had a sub today and had a lesson on Peer pressure. Nothing was due or was assigned today. The read a story called "A Bad Case of the Stripes." They should have discussed why people give in to peer pressure and done a couple of activities related to this. I should be feeling better and back at work tomorrow and we will start where we left off in class yesterday.

December 4th

1st period students did the crazy stitching activity from Tuesday (see December 2nd Blog). 2nd, 5th and 7th period students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way. Any student who missed this day is highly encouraged to go to the following site and click on the first video on bobbin winding. December 2nd

1st period took their parts of the sewing machine quiz and discussed safety while Students in 2nd, 5th and 7th worked on their "Crazy Stitching" today (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the six papers they had to chose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit. Tomorrow, students will learn how to wind a bobbin and thread a machine.

December 1st

We did not have 1st period today because of the Sub for Santa assembly. In the other three classes, we took the parts of the sewing machine quiz and students were given their CTE sewing permits to start working on and filling out. Students who passed the quiz with 8 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit. Students who did not pass can come Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of this week only and retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40. We also reviewed safety procedures in the sewing lab.

November 26th

Students learned the parts of the sewing machine and what they are used for. They have to study these parts over the weekend in preparation for a quiz on Monday where they will need to be able to identify 8 out of 12 parts of the machine to pass. If they don't pass, they can come after school Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday to retake the quiz. These points will count as points on their sewing permit.

November 25th

Students collected their sewing supplies for the upcoming sewing unit and learned about the rules and expectations of their behavior in the sewing lab.

November 24th

Students watched a video on how to care for fabrics and fibers titled "Gone with the wash." They were also given an extra credit assignment on how to iron a camp or dress shirt. Parents get to award the amount of points out of 15 that they feel their student earned. These are due back by the last week of the term.

November 21st

Students were given a second day in the computer lab to finish their "Fabric Online" web quest paper. These are due at the beginning of class on Monday. Anyone who didn't finish today was told that this is now homework for the weekend.

November 20th

Students researched different fabrics and textiles using a website from ThinkQuest.org titled "Fabric Online". Students were given specific questions to research and find. This assignment is due tomorrow (Friday) at the end of their class period.

November 19th

The students took their vocabulary test for the family and independent living skills unit. It was 21 terms and definitions to match up and were worth 2 points a piece. There is no redo tests offered on this since we had discussed it so much and told them exactly what would be on the test. We then finished the child care safety video from yesterday and the rest of the safety starters from yesterday were due in to the basket by the end of class.

November 18th

While watching a video on child care safety and childproofing a home, students had to identify at least 5 safety precautions or safety items they currently have at home. Afterwards, students had to analyze 5 ways they can eliminate safety hazards at home. It was worth 10 points and is due tomorrow at the end of class. They also have their unit vocabulary test tomorrow during class. We will take and grade this in class and their scores should be posted to Skyward by the end of the day.

Students learned about the "Keys to caregiving" which included physical, emotional and guidance needs. We also discussed child abuse and some off the signs caregivers need to look for. We also discussed their unit vocabulary test, which included specific terms, on Wednesday which students need to study for.

We went through the 5 steps of problem solving, which the students had to write down. We then gave some examples of how the problem solving process could be used. We also discussed family traditions, why we have them and what they are, shared some examples of our own family traditions and watched a clip from "Fiddler on the Roof."

Students discussed what a family is, family types and how to set up a family council.

November 12th

The classes learned the definition of the term self-concept and we discussed ways that we can raise others self-concept as well as our own. Students then discussed how advertisers come up with packaging for products and how the way we present ourselves to others is like packaging ourselves to others. Students then created a package from a lunch sack that represents themselves and uses positive labels instead of negative. These are due at the start of class tomorrow (Thursday).

Students learned about and defined social skills, acceptable and unacceptable behavior and manners. They discussed what each one meant and gave examples of each. We then moved on to how this relates to friendships and finding good friends.

Today, students learned about stress reducers. I provided a number of different stress reducers and the class shared ways they prefer to reduce their stress. The class also practiced relaxation techniques during the last few minutes of class using a prerecorded relaxation tape.

Today, students learned about stress, stressors, distress and eustress. All of the terms were defined, explained and discussed as a group. The notes/definitions will be used on the families and independent living skills unit test.

Students discussed attentive listening, as well as what attentive listening looks, feels and sounds like as well as what it doesn't look, feel and sound like. They also had an activity on attentive listening to figure out what sounds they were hearing.

November 5th

Students learned about six different poor communication techniques and six good communication techniques to help create effective communication with others. The students need to keep these notes with them for the end of unit test.

November 4th

Students had a sub today. The watched "Cypher in the Snow" and wrote about someone they know who has been left out and forgotten. They also had to share something about themselves that no own else knows.

Students learned about the three types of communication; written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language. They were also given their new hall passes and late passes today for this new term.

The students were given their final grade and citizenship for 1st term/quarter. They were instructed to go through the printout carefully and then I called them up one at a time to fix any mistakes and finalize their grade. While we were doing that, the students played "Life." I will see every student next term, which starts Monday, for the FACS rotation of CTE Intro. There might be one or two who are changing class periods, but everyone else will stay with me. New class schedules and rotations will be handed out at the end of the semester in January.

Students scored and recorded their record books today. They were worth 160 points. Students will receive a grade printout with their final grade and citizenship tomorrow during class. After they graded their record books, the students had an "Investigating Interesting Careers" find they worked on while we put their scores for their record books on Skyward.

Students watched a virtual tour of the Jordan Applied Technical Center (JATC) and discussed the programs they have available for high school students. Afterwords, we had a Halloween activity since today was dress-up day. Most of the students were gone for seventh period for the music department assessment, so the students who were here watched the video and did the activity.

The Green SEOP form was due today. They received 50 points if it was completed and signed by a parent or 25 if it was not signed. Students who turn it in late will receive 38 points (75%) if it is turned in by Wednesday. We then went through and finished any pages already started in their record books and crossed out any that we had not started. That way, students will know exactly which ones they will be graded on and expected to complete. The record books will be due on Wednesday and will be graded in class. They are worth 160 points.

Students used the spins they earned yesterday for "The Game of Life" today. The winner of each game won a prize. Their green SEOP paper is due back Monday signed by both a parent/guardian and the student. Also, all late work/missing work and extra credit was due today during class. Students have been warned about this for the past two weeks so no exceptions will be made!

October 23rd

Students will be playing "The Game of Life" tomorrow in class, so today they were earning and counting the amount of spins they will have for tomorrow's game. We used pages CD 13A.4, CD 13A.5 and CD 13A.6 in their record books for this. Also, their SEOP form with a parent/guardian signature is due on Monday, October 27th.

October 22nd

The students had there last guest speaker from the counseling office. He played a game called "Get all you can" where students earned candy by working with other teams and learned the importance of negotiating, cooperating, teamwork, leadership and integrity. The team with the most candy at the end got to keep theirs and the rest of the class had to return their candy. No points were awarded and nothing was due today.

Students were reminded about the deadline Friday, October 21st for any late/missing assignments and extra credit. This is all due into the basket by the end of their class. We then went through the glossary in their record book and finished any vocabulary terms that the Student teacher may have missed. They were also told that they can come in after school any time this week to retake the test to improve their score. The highest of the two scores will be kept.

October 15th

Students took a vocabulary test today on the vocabulary terms in the glossary in the back of their record books. Mrs. Rey discussed the test a couple of times during the past week and what would be on the test as well. The tests will be scored over the weekend and the results we be on Skyward by Tuesday. Any student who was absent has to make up this test sometime next week (by the 24th). The students were then given time to catch-up on anything in their record books that they missed or hadn't finished yet. These will be due on the 28th and we will finish the last few activities next week in class.

All seventh graders went to a CTE assembly in the morning where they learned about some careers from parents of students in the law enforcement and medical career fields. They saw firefighters take apart a car as if it were an emergency situation and learned a little bit about a fire fighters' job. A parent who works for the Bureau of Criminal investigation talked about some of the jobs done within their department (criminal records, training of law enforcement, etc.) Another parent shared with us a video about nursing and the great opportunities and satisfaction that being a nurse has.
Classes in the afternoon (5th and 7th period) read through an informational pamphlet about the benefits of education as it relates to careers. As they read, they answered questions about college, college expenses and income. This was an assignment they turned in at the end of class (only 5th and 7th period.)

The students had a guest speaker today, Mrs. Gochnour, the school Psychologist. Students answered questions to discover what their dominant learning style is. She then discussed with the class what each learning style was and what learning activities and ways to study are best for each style and student.

Students played Game of life the board game seeing some of the things that may happen in real life. They answered questions on a sheet about some of the things that happened to them during the game.

Students read about career paths today and answered questions about them. They had to think about how some specific jobs relate to a specific career path. At the end of class we watched a short video clip from an I Love Lucy episode where Lucy is trying to find a job.

Students learned the differences of individuals and about talents and abilities. They watched a short video called "The Pound Theory" about differences and what makes us unique. Afterwards, they wrote down the definitions of talent, ability and skill in their glossery of terms in the back of their record book. We then surveyed their talents and abitlities on their "I have talents and abilities" page in their record book. We then dicussed how to improve on those talents and abilities which then led us to "The arithmetic of success." An extra credit option was also pressented to the class that students can take home and do with a parent or guardian and return by the end of the term.

We discussed what things you need to prepare and consider when getting a job. Items we discussed were appearance, attitude, body language, applications, resumes, thank you letters and references. Students wrote down some general information that they might put in their resume. In their record book, A Stellar Performance, they identified some school skills, activities and references they might use on a resume.

We finished up our auction and discussed what types of things people value. Looking at the auction, students could see how some people put a lot of value on certain things. We then talked about the SCANS skills. SCANS skills are the necessary skills that have been shown that any successful person needs no matter what occupation their in.

Welcome to October! The students had an activity today to help them figure out what their values are and how they will effect their choice of careers in the future. They wrote down the definitions to values, preferences and economic security in their record books. We then held a career auction. All students were provided with $2000 each to bid on careers and different lifestyle choices they will have in the future. The students could then bid on what they were interested in. Tomorrow, we will discuss how the money that was spent on these choices shows us what their career preferences and main values are. The students had to keep track of what each auction item sold for in their record book.

A counselor from the school talked with the students about job and gender stereotyping. They guessed what type of job a person had by looking at their picture. The pictures were males and females and most had jobs that many people wouldn't have guessed they had.

Students reviewed the personality types that Mr. Ogden presented last Thursday. They took a short personality quiz using Holland's Code. They discovered if they were more likely a doer, thinker, creator, organizer, persuader, or helper. They got into groups according to their types and reviewed a little bit about the skills that personality type has. For the remainder of the class period, we played a game about agriculture and how it affects us.

The students had a guest speaker today. It was Mr. Ogden who is the current Guidance Counselor Intern for the counseling office. He discussed how to chose careers based on their personailities and discussed different personality types, such as doer, organizer and helper, and had teh students think about what kind of personaility they have.

Today was the last day in the computer lab for the students to work on "Discovering career interests." If they didn't finish today, they can finish it at home tonight. We meet in room P 207 which is one of the school computer labs. Students put together their sample for this class for their portfolio. Students were also reminded that anything not turned in past two weeks after it's due date will not be accepted and that it is their responsibility to check Skyward and the blog site at least once a week to check on their grades. Students were then given a packet entitled "Discovering career interests" and where shown how to create a portfolio on Choice's Explorer. We will be up in the computer lab Tuesday and Wednesday working on this as well. Anything the student does not finish in class needs to be finished at home. This activity and program will help them discover and research three different career areas which may interest them.

Students watched short commercial clips that Bill Cosby did about career exploration. We discussed how from very young ages people ask us what we want to do when we're older. We also talked briefly about how young children often pretend that they do a certain type of work. For example, young children will pretend that they are firefighters. We divided up into groups and as groups brainstormed of as many careers as they could think of. Each group shared with the class some of the careers they listed.

In our record books we finished creating our monthly budgets with individualized monthly expenses. We finished calculating our own expenses such as entertainment, food, clothing and bills. Using their own income and expenses they calculated how much money they have left over. They then received a 'chance' card that had a random expense or gain for a surprise event. (example: car wreck: have to pay $500, Bonus at work: $200.00) Students also viewed a video about bankruptcy and its increase in recent years especially here in Utah.

The class reviewed some terms that would be found on a paycheck Students used their gross monthly income from their occupation given them yesterday to find their net income. Students each are creating a monthly budget based on income and expenses. We calculated how much each student could spend on a monthly mortgage, vehicle and utility bills based on their occupation's income.

Students learned some new vocabulary related to work and jobs. Each was then randomly given an occupation with a description of the job, income, vacation days, etc. They were able to explore some of the other occupations and how it compared to their own occupation. They were able to get a good feel for different types of jobs and occupations.

The students were able to watch a clip from the movie "Snow White" about going off to work. they were asked what they can do to earn money and what they think the term "work" means from watching the clip. They answered the questions on "The world of work" page in their record books, then the class went through and discussed the correct answers to the questions.

The students were given the first few minutes of class to finish their "Dream" collages. Afterwards, they shared with the rest of the class what some of their dreams are. These collages were then turned in for points and will be placed in their student-led conference portfolios. Any time that was left in class was spent playing a career/educational version of trivial pursuit.

We created a collage of our dreams today. Using yesterday's wish list as a guide, students found pictures of things that they want or see themselves doing in the future. This way, students can visualize the type of future that they want.

We finished up our world of work packet focusing on how occupations are increasing with technology. Students understand that technology is a big part of every aspect of our lives, especially in the career world. We moved on to the things that we dream of having in the future. Students were able to choose a type of housing, transportation, entertainment and other aspects of their lives. They calculated how much their monthly expenses would be if they had all of their wish list items.

Students took a CTE vocabulary pre-test. This was a test to see how much they knew already and they were given participation points for doing it. Students then viewed a PowerPoint and took notes on a guide sheet. This information is for them to better understand the world of work: what it is, why people work and different types of careers.

My student teacher, Mrs. Rey, starting teaching the CTE introduction students today. They started working today in their CTE Intro. booklets that we created last week. It is very important that students bring these with them everyday to class. They will not be provided with new ones if they forget to bring them. Today, Mrs. Rey introduced herself and discussed why it is important to know yourself and your likes and dislikes to help you decide on future career options and choices. They completed the page entitled "All About Me" and found out information about other classmates on the page "Are we all alike?"

We finished watching the last ten minutes of the health care careers video we started on Friday. We then explain the five different pathways or categories of health care careers and what people in each field do. At the end of class, students were given a ten point, ten question crossword puzzle to complete. These will be due tomorrow at the start of class.

Students turned in their parent letters for CTE Intro. They also turned in their folders identifying the three types of resources from yesterday. These will be graded and placed on Skyward over the weekend. During the rest of class, we watched part of a video about different health care careers. Students demonstrated their learning of the three types of resources by cutting out a picture of each type of resource, labeling them correctly and pasting them onto a file folder. I then demonstrated out to create a 3-dimensional graph using the file folder. They can use this technic in the future for science fairs and other projects. The folder is due tomorrow (Friday) in class and is worth 30 points.

August 27th

Students were introduced to the term economy and economics. We discussed the top 5 principles of the economy and how one effects the other. They also learned about the three types of resources (human, natural and capital) and how they are used in different situations. Some of the classes also got to an activity where they discovered and named their own planet and had to tell me about the three types of resources which are found on that planet. This was not turned in or worth points. they will use the information to help them with a project tomorrow in class.

RATTLE traits and emergency procedures were also reviewed. They spent the rest of the class time getting to know the other students in their class by playing a get to know you game.

Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I made have made or computer errors. They also watched a video on Food Science Careers and we discussed other careers in the food and nutrition industry.

May 27th

Students used their measuring skills while making Fruit freezes. They had to demonstrate proper lab procedures and hygenine as well. Students who were not here today (for any reason) will have to make the lab at home and return a note signed by a parent saying their student made the lab in order to make-up the missing points. Today was also the last day to turn in any late work from this past two weeks and any extra credit, including any unused hall passes and late passes.

May 23rd

Students worked as a group on an activity to figure out the names of different types of cooking equipment and the meanings of different cooking terms. The answers were provided at the end of class so students could see how they did. This assignment was not turned in for points.

May 22nd

Students watched a video about My Pyramid, which took the place of the food guide pyramid a few years ago. We discussed the changes which have taken place and students could change their diets to align more closely to the pyramid. The students also had a word search to work on during the last few minutes of class, but was not turned in for points.

May 21st

Students learned about the parts to a food label and about the importance of reading food labels to help become better consumers and to become more aware of what is in the foods they are eating.

May 20th

Students learned about how recipes are formatted and why. We also covered the importance of reading through a recipe before beginning and collecting all of the ingredients to make sure they have all of the ingredients. Students had a wordsearch on the eight points of a good recipe to turn in for 16 points. Most turned it in at the end of class.

Students watched a video titled "Measuring Math" which demonstrated how to measure different ingredients and the importance of measuring correctly. The students will demonstrate what they learned when measuring out ingredients in a future foods lab.

Students made the ramen noodle stir-fry today. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for this lab, they must make it up in the next week and a half (by the 27th) in order for me to get the points on their grade before the end of the term.

Students made a fruit salad today using their cooking terms and pieces of equipment they learned about last week. The lab was worth 50 points. Students watched a video titled "The Great Food Fight." They also had to answer questions with a partner on information found in the video. We then discussed food safety and proper kitchen hygiene when preparing and eating foods. The students did not turn their papers in for points. It was for information and awareness purposes only.

Students were introduced to the foods lab and where told lab expectations and rules, as well as how labs are run and where different things are the lab. Their first cooking lab is on Thursday and is the fruit salad. They were also reminded that the last day to turn in extra credit or late work is Tuesday, May 27th.

Students learned about the "Keys to caregiving" which included physical, emotional and guidance needs. We also discussed child abuse and some off the signs caregivers need to look for. We also discussed their unit vocabulary test on Monday which students need to study for.

May 8th

While watching a video on child care safety and childproofing a home, students had to identify at least 5 safety hazards they currently have at home. Afterwards, students had to analyze 5 ways they can eliminate these safety hazards and turn this into the turn-in basket.

Students discussed what a family is, family types and watched a portion of a video which demonstrates child proofing a home for the younger members of our family. We will finish watching it and discuss it tomorrow.

Today, students learned about stress, stressors, distress and stress reducers. All of the terms were defined, explained and discussed as a group. The notes/definitions will be used on the independent living skills unit test on Friday. Students were also given their permission form for the Hogle Zoo field trip on May 30th. Students learned about the three types of communication; written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language.

Students learned about some of the new technology being developed for our homes. We read "Life in a very cool lab" which students had to turn in the questions from.

The class discussed new technology in fabrics and fibers which consumers, athletics and the military are using for different purposes. The students did have to turn in their "Life in a very cool lab" questions if they didn't yesterday.

Today was the second to the last day students will be in the sewing lab. Locker Pockets are due tomorrow by the end of the class period. As students finished their project they were given a choice of things to do. they could help someone else, do an extra credit crossword puzzle on the parts of the sewing machine, read their reading books or worked on homework.

All of the CTE Intro classes watched the teacher demonstration on how to do their locker pocket project. Many students turned in their CTE sewing permits and started on their locker pocket projects. The classes learned the definition of the term self-concept and we discussed ways that we can raise others self-concept as well as our own. Students then discussed how advertisers come up with packaging for products and how the way we present ourselves to others is like packaging ourselves to others. Students then created a package from a lunch sack that represents themsleves and uses positive labels instead of negative. These are due at the start of class tomorrow (Friday).

Students reviewed how to thread a machine and then started on their bookmarks. Detailed instructions were provided as well as a teacher demonstration. They will continue these on Friday.

Students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way.

Students worked on their "Crazy Stitching" today (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the six papers they had to chose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit. Tomorrow, students will learn how to wind a bobbin and thread a machine.

We took the parts of the sewing machine quiz and students were given their CTE sewing permits to start working on and filling out. Students who passed the quiz with 8 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit. Students who did not pass can come Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday or Friday of next week and retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40. We also reviewed safety procedures in the sewing lab.

Students had a sub today. They watched "Cypher in the Snow" and wrote about someone they know who has been left out and forgotten. They also had to share something about themselves that no own else knows.

Students watched a video on how to care for fabrics and fibers titled "Gone with the wash." They were also given an extra credit assignment on how to iron a camp or dress shirt. Welcome to the last term! Students reviewed the disclosure and course content of the Family and Consumer Sciences portion of CTE Intro. They all received hall passes and late passes. We will be starting the clothing and textiles unit tomorrow and we will be meeting in the P207 computer lab on Wednesday and Thursday.

Students watched a video about My Pyramid, which took the place of the food guide pyramid a few years ago. We discussed the changes which have taken place and students could change their diets to align more closely to the pyramid. The students also had a word search to work on during the last few minutes of class, but was not turned in for points. Today was also the last day to turn in any extra credit, including hall passes and late passes, plus any missing work from the past two weeks. All was due at the end of the class period.

Students had a lab to review measuring and reading a recipe. It was called "Oatmeal munchies" and was worth 50 points on their grade. Any student who was absent needs to get the recipe from me and make them at home sometime before Friday so that this can be placed on their grade. Any missing/late assignments, extra credit, projects or labs need to be turned in by tomorrow for me to grade it and get it on their grade.

There was a sub today. Students worked as a group on an activity to figure out the names of different types of cooking equipment and the meanings of different cooking terms. The answers were provided at the end of class so students could see how they did. Their lab tomorrow will involve knowing the names of some of the pieces of equipment and various cooking terms. This assignment was not turned in for points.

Students made Vanishing Breakfast Biscuits to help reinforce our lesson from yesterday about the importance off reading recipes. Any student who was absent must make the lab at home and return the recipe signed by a parent stating that their student did the assignment.

We also covered the importance of reading through a recipe before beginning and collecting all of the ingredients to make sure they have all of the ingredients. Students were reminded about the open sewing lab today and tomorrow after school to finish their locker pocket projects. They were also reminded about the deadline for extra credit and late work for the next two weeks is March 19th. No late work or extra credit will be accepted after this date. Students started learning about food borne illnesses and food safety. They watched "The Great Food Fight" and answered some questions, which we then went over in detail afterwards. We will continue this tomorrow and talk about kitchen and lab safety and rules on Monday.
