June 2nd

No school for the seventh graders! Have a great summer and see you next year!

June 1st

The 7th grade students are expected to be in school today. Sewing lab cleaning, finalizing of grades, faculty vs. student games, and yearbook signing will be taking place today.

May 31st

Students will have a guest speaker on some of the different areas behind the scenes in the theater. Students will not have anything do, but are expected to participate.

May 27th

Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I may have made or computer errors. They also cleaned a part of the sewing lab.

May 26th

The students took their end-of-year test for the CTE Intro class. It has 40 questions on it with ten questions from each CTE rotation they had this year. There is no redo tests offered on this. If they missed the test, it becomes the student's responsibility to arrange a time to come in and take it sometime this week (by Friday the 27th!).

May 25th

The classes learned the definition of the term self-concept and we discussed ways that we can raise others self-concept as well as our own. Students then discussed how advertisers come up with packaging for products and how the way we present ourselves to others is like packaging ourselves for others. We also prepared for their end-of-year test tomorrow.

May 23rd/May 24th

We went through the 5 steps of problem solving, which the students had to write down. We then gave some examples of how the problem solving process could be used. We also discussed family traditions, why we have them and what they are, shared some examples of our own family traditions and watched a clip from "Fiddler on the Roof" about traditions. We also discussed what a family is, as well as identifying different family types. They also watched a video about the functions of a family, no matter what type of family they have.

May 20th

Today, students learned about stress reducers. I provided a number of different stress reducers and the class shared ways they prefer to reduce their stress. The class also practiced visual relaxation techniques during the last few minutes of class using a prerecorded relaxation tape.

May 19th

Today, students learned about stress, stressors, distress and stress reducers. All of the terms were defined, explained and discussed as a group.

May 18th

Today we focused on non-verbal body language and listening skills. Students discussed why they have to be observant when watching for body language and we discused the importance of attentive listening, which is using their hearts, heads and eyes, as well as ears to listen.

May 17th

Students learned about six different poor communication techniques and six good communication techniques to help create effective communication with others. The students need to keep these notes with them for the end of unit test.

May 16th

Students learned about the three types of communication; written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language.

May 13th

Students learned about and defined social skills, acceptable and unacceptable behavior and manners. They discussed what each one meant and gave examples of each.

May 12th

Students had a lab to review measuring and reading a recipe. It was called "Oatmeal munchies" and was worth 50 points on their grade. Any student who was absent needs to get the recipe from me and make them at home and get the recipe signed by a parent or guardian, then turn it in to the turn-in basket.

May 11th

Students watched a video about My Pyramid, which took the place of the food guide pyramid a few years ago. We discussed the changes which have taken place and students could change their diets to align more closely to the pyramid. The students also had a word search to work on during the last few minutes of class, but was not turned in for points.

May 10th

Students made the Ramen Noodle stir-fry today. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for this lab, they must make it up at home and return the recipe signed by a parent and turn it in to the turn-in basket.

May 9th

Students made a fruit salad today using different cooking terms and pieces of equipment. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for this lab, they must make it up at home and return the recipe signed by a parent/guardian to earn the points.

May 6th

Students learned about the parts to a food label and about the importance of reading food labels to help become better consumers and to become more aware of what is in the foods they are eating.

May 5th

Students worked in pairs on an activity to figure out the names of different types of cooking equipment and the meanings of different cooking terms. The answers were provided at the end of class so students could see how they did. They will use this information in each of their remaining cooking labs.

May 4th

Students made Vanishing Breakfast Biscuits to help reinforce our lesson from Monday about the importance of reading recipes. Any student who was absent, for any reason (including CRT testing), must make the lab at home and return the recipe signed by a parent stating that their student did the assignment.

May 3rd

Students used their measuring skills while making Fruit freezes. They had to demonstrate proper lab procedures and hygiene as well. Students who were not here today (for any reason, including CRT testing) will have to make the lab at home and return a note signed by a parent saying their student made the lab in order to make-up the missing points.
