March 31st
The students collected their sewing supplies for the upcoming sewing unit and learned about the rules and expectations of their behavior in the sewing lab, as well as how they will be graded and what assignments/projects they will complete during the rest of this unit.

March 30th
To start our unit on textiles, students learned about where different fibers come from and how fibers are made into fabrics. They also learned and what woven, knitted and non-woven fabrics are and how they are produced.
March 29th
Welcome to the new term and to the Family and Consumer Science (FACS) section of CTE Intro. Today we went through the course description, gave out hall passes and late passes, created a seating chart, and went through where items are in the room, as well as what CTE Intro. is.

March 25th
Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I may have made or computer errors. We discussed their new schedules for next term as well. The Q4 CTE teacher will be their next and last rotation for CTE Intro and will be their teacher for term/quarter 4. They also watched a video on food related careers.
March 24th
Students learned about some of the new technology being developed for our homes. We read "Life in a very cool lab" which students had to turn in the questions from. Most finished in class, but a few had to take it home for homework. This is due at the first of class tomorrow (Thursday, March 25th).

March 23rd
1st and 7th period had one last day to finish their locker pockets. 4th and 7th period had an extra day to work on these, so they learned about where different fibers come from and how these fibers are made into fabrics for us to use and wear. Any student who did not finish their locker pocket needs to stay today (Tuesday) after school to finish it. They can also stay tomorrow (Wednesday), but I HAVE to leave at 3:00.
March 22nd
Students continued working on their locker pocket organizers. We will continue working on these tomorrow (Tuesday), if needed. Students HAVE to have these turned in to me by Wednesday at the latest in order for these to be on their grades for 3rd term on Thursday. Students were told that they can stay after school today until 3:30 or tomorrow until they finish if they need to.

March 18th
Students continued working on their locker pocket organizers. Students were also reminded that today, March 18th, was the last day to turn in any late/missing assignments and extra credit, including unused hall and late passes. Since 1st and 7th period classes have lost a day working on these due to an assembly and earthquake drill, we will continue working on these into next week. Students HAVE to have these turned in to me by Wednesday at the latest in order for these to be on their grades for 3rd term on Thursday.

Students watched the teacher demonstration of the locker pocket project. They were then given the rest of the class period to finish their bookmarks and start on their locker pockets. They were also warned about the upcoming deadline for make-up work and extra credit which is Thursday, March 18th.

Students learned how to use the rotary cutters, mats and sergers. Afterwards, they had the rest of class to work on their bookmarks. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by Wednesday, March 17th at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

March 12th
Students threaded their sewing machines on their own today and continued to work on their bookmarks. On Monday they will learn about rotary cutters and sergers and start turning in their completed sewing permits. Today was also the last day to retake the "Parts of the Sewing Machine" quiz after school. They were also reminded about the upcoming deadline for missing/late assignments and extra credit, which is next Thursday, March 18th.

March 11th
Students reviewed how to thread a machine and then started on their bookmarks. Detailed instructions were provided as well as a teacher demonstration. They will continue working on these on Friday and Monday.
March 10th
Students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way. Any student who missed this day is highly encouraged to go to the following site and click on the first video on bobbin winding. Students had a sub today and learned about values. Students turned in a paper for participation points from questions asked about a story called "Test day".

March 8th
We took the parts of the sewing machine quiz and students were given their CTE sewing permits to start working on and filling out. Students who passed the quiz with 8 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit. Students who did not pass can come Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday after school this week to retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40.

Students watched a video on how to care for fabrics and fibers titled "Gone with the wash." They also had a few questions they had to answer using the information in the video.

March 4th
Students worked on their "Crazy Stitching" today (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the seven papers/patterns they had to chose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit.

March 3rd
Students learned the parts of the sewing machine and what they are used for. They have to study these parts over the weekend in preparation for a quiz on Monday where they will need to be able to identify 8 out of 12 parts of the machine to pass. If they don't pass, they can come after school Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of next week to retake the quiz. These points will count as points on their "Sewing Permit."

Students played the "Game of Life," the board game, seeing some of the things that may happen in real life. They answered questions on a sheet about some of the things that happened to them during the game and turned it in at the end of class for points.
