Students learned about and defined social skills, acceptable and unacceptable behavior and manners. They discussed what each one meant and gave examples of each. We then moved on to how this relates to the stereotypes we have and how we treat other people based on those stereotypes.

While watching a video on child care safety and babysitting, students had 11 true/false questions to answer or they could play a safety game to earn points for their team.

Students discussed the terms independence, freedom and responsibility and how they relate to each other. We then went through the 5 steps of problem solving, which the students had to write down. We then gave some examples of how the problem solving process could be used. We also discussed a few common careers students can go into to help families and members of families deal with problems they may be facing.

Students had a lab to review measuring and reading a recipe. It was called "Oatmeal munchies" and was worth 50 points on their grade. Any student who was absent for any reason needs to get the recipe from me and make them at home and get the make-up sheet signed by a parent or guardian, then turn it in to the turn-in basket.

Students made Vanishing Breakfast Biscuits to help reinforce our lesson about the importance of reading recipes. Any student who was absent (For ANY reason) must make the lab at home and return the lab make-up form signed by a parent stating that their student did the assignment.

Students watched a video about My Plate, which took the place of the MyPyramid three years ago. We discussed the changes which have taken place and how students could change their diets to align more closely to the plate. The students also had some true and false questions to work on during the last few minutes of class, but was not turned in for points.

Students who were not here today (for any reason) will have to make the lab at home and return the lab make-up form signed by a parent saying their student made the lab in order to make-up the missing points.

The students will demonstrate what they learned when measuring out ingredients in future cooking labs. There were also two extra credit sheets available to the students on doubling a recipe, measuring abbreviations and equivalents. These can be turned in anytime between now and the end of the term.

Since the CTE Intro teachers are meeting today for PLCs, Students will NOT be sewing today. Students started learning about food borne illnesses and food safety. They watched "Food Safety" and answered some questions, which we then went over and graded and discussed afterward. We also discussed food safety when dining out, especially at fast food restaurants and about cross-contamination.

If students were absent, they need to go to my website and watch the video clips from YouTube on how to use a rotary cutter and how to use a serger. We took the parts of the sewing machine quiz. Students who passed the quiz with 9 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit and earned the first 5 points on their permits. Students who did not pass can come after school on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday of next week to retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40. We then finished crazy stitching (stitching on paper), which is the next step on their sewing permits.

Students were given their final grades and citizenship for this term. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I may have made or computer errors. They also cleaned a part of the sewing lab and we discussed what teacher they have for CTE Intro next term.

Students had a final for this term to take today on what they have learned about in this section of CTE Intro. This will be scored today and put on their final grade so they can check those tomorrow before grades are finalized.

Students learned about different Child Care and Child Development careers available to them, as well as what child care, day care and family care centers are and what is required to run one. They also had to write down the definitions of a child care center and a family care center. Afterward, students learned about different kinds and types of play teachers use in a preschool and day care setting to teach the children in their care while also playing. Today was also the last day they could turn in any late/missing assignments or extra credit, including unused hall passes and late passes.

Today is the CTE Intro Job Shadow Day! Most students were at work "on the job" and have a written assignment to complete while they are gone. These will be due tomorrow. Students who stayed were placed into one of five groups and had different career related activities to complete throughout the day. These were due at the end of each class period when they were done.

Students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way. We took the parts of the sewing machine quiz. Students who passed the quiz with 8 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit and earned the first 5 points on their permits. Students who did not pass can come after school on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week to retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40. We then finished crazy stitching (stitching on paper), which is the next step on their sewing permits.

The students collected their sewing supplies for the upcoming sewing unit and learned about the rules and expectations of their behavior in the sewing lab, as well as how they will be graded and what assignments/projects they will complete during the rest of this unit.

Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I may have made or computer errors. They also cleaned a part of the sewing lab.

The students took their vocabulary test for the family and child care unit. It was on the terms and definitions from this unit. There is no redo tests offered on this since we had discussed it so much and told them exactly what would be on the test. If they missed the test, they MUST make it up TOMORROW, March 26, 2013 OR I CANNOT GET IT ON THEIR FINAL GRADE.

Students had a review for their Families and Independent Living Skills test. They played Bingo or Jeopardy, depending on what the class chose. They can also play the review games online tonight to help them review. Both are found on my google site under test reviews and games. Today was also the last day they could turn in any late/missing assignments or extra credit, including unused hall passes and late passes.

Students learned about and defined social skills, acceptable and unacceptable behavior and manners. They discussed what each one meant and gave examples of each. We then moved on to how this relates to the stereotypes we have and how we treat other people based on those stereotypes.

We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language. As students finished their locker pocket organizer and turned it in, they could then work on a rise and stretch activity making a pencil roll-up pouch for their colored pencils or anything else they have a use for one. Today is also their last sewing day in class. If they don't finish in class today, they will have to come during Diamond Time or after school to finish their projects up.

They read through the instructions and grading rubric and the teacher demonstrated the process of making a locker pocket. Students used their measuring skills while making a Fruit freeze. They had to demonstrate proper lab procedures and hygiene as well. Students who were not here today (for any reason) will have to make the lab at home and return a note signed by a parent saying their student made the lab in order to make-up the missing points.

Students watched a video titled "Measuring Math" which demonstrated how to measure different ingredients and the importance of measuring correctly. The students will demonstrate what they learned when measuring out ingredients in future cooking labs. There were also two extra credit sheets available to the students on doubling a recipe, measuring abbreviations and equivalents. These can be turned in anytime between now and the end of the term.
