February 28th

Students continued working on their locker pockets today. All CTE Sewing permits were due today and were posted on PowerSchool. Students will also have Monday and Tuesday to work on their locker pockets.

February 27th

1st period watched the teacher demonstration of the locker pocket project. 3rd, 6th and 7th period had the whole class period to work on their locker pockets. Some students will finish these tomorrow, but most will finish these on Monday of next week.

February 26th

1st period students learned how to use the rotary cutters and sergers. 3rd, 6th and 7th period classes watched the teacher demonstration on how to do their locker pocket project. Today is the last day to make up the Parts of the sewing machine quiz and they must be here by 2:40. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by Thursday at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

February 25th

Student put together their samples for Student-Led Conferences. They were also reminded again about checking their powerschool grade and the blog site every week. 1st period reviewed how to thread their sewing machine and started their bookmarks while 3rd, 6th and 7th period were introduced to the rotary cutters and the sergers. Faster students will start on locker pockets tomorrow. Students were also reminded that the LAST CHANCE to take the Parts of the sewing machine quiz will be TOMORROW, Tuesday the 26th after school.

February 22nd

Students reviewed how to thread a machine and then started on their bookmarks. Detailed instructions were provided as well as a teacher demonstration. They will continue these on Monday.

February 21st

1st period students practiced stitching with a sewing machine on paper while 3rd, 6th and 7th learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while i walked them through it. Students are encouraged to help each other.

February 20th

1st period took their parts of the sewing machine quiz and discussed safety precautions while 3rd, 6th and 7th learned how to stitch using the sewing machines and practiced on paper (Crazy stitching).

February 19th

1st period learned the parts of the sewing machine. They need to study today and will take the test tomorrow. 3rd, 6th and 7th took the parts of the sewing machine quiz and were given their CTE sewing permits to start working on and filling out. We also reviewed safety procedures in he sewing lab.

February 15th

1st period collected their sewing supplies today, since they are a day behind. 3rd, 6th and 7th learned the parts of the sewing machine and what they are used for. They have to study these parts over the weekend in preparation for a quiz on Tuesday where they will need to be able to identify 8 out of 12 parts of the machine to pass.

February 14th

3rd, 6th and 7th collected their sewing supplies for the upcoming sewing unit and learned about the rules and expectations of their behavior in the sewing lab. 1st period was canceled because of the late start.

February 13th

Students graded their "Fabric Online" papers while we discussed the different types of fibers and fabrics. These were then turned into the basket so I could record their scores.

February 12th

There was a sub today. Students watched a video on how to care for fabrics and fibers titled "Gone with the wash." They were also given an extra credit assignment on how to iron a camp or dress shirt. Parents get to award the amount of points out of 15 that they feel their student earned. These are due back by the last week of the term.

February 11th

Students were given a second day in the computer lab to finish their Fabrics online web search paper. 1st period is a day behind and experienced computer and internet problems, so they will be back in the lab tomorrow. 3rd, 6th and 8th period had to chare computers and were split between two computer labs and had the entire class period to finish.

February 8th

Students researched different fabrics and textiles using a website from ThinkQuest.org. Students were given specific questions to research and find. This assignment is due Monday at the end of their class period.

February 7th

Students took their vocabulary test today which was worth 42 points with each question worth 2 points a piece. We were also able to correct and score it during class. Tomorrow and Monday, students will be meeting in the P207 computer lab to learn about fibers and fabrics.

February 6th

While watching a video on child care safety and childproofing a home, students had to identify at least 5 safety hazards they currently have at home. Afterwards, students had to analyze ways they can eliminate these safety hazards and turn this into the turn-in basket. They also have a vocabulary quiz tomorrow on the terms we have been using during this past unit. FOR 7TH PERIOD ONLY: Students have been having a lot of problems with tardies. The class has been told that if they are tardy to class on Thursday, they will have to take the quiz on their own time after school.

February 5th

Students learned about the "Keys to caregiving" which included physical, emotional and guidance needs. We also discussed child abuse and some off the signs caregivers need to look for. We also discussed their unit vocabulary test on Thursday which students need to study for.

February 4th

Students finished watching and discussing the video on family types and stepfamilies. They started watching a video on child safety and child proofing a home, which they will finish tomorrow.

February 1st

Students watched a video about different family types and family stereotypes. Students had to identify the six different family types throughout the video and we discussed the stereotypes of step-parents given in the video.
