October 31st
Happy Halloween! Students played a trivial pursuit game on careers in class today. This was an in-class activity and no points were lost if a student was not here today. Record books will be graded and turned in tomorrow (Thursday).

October 26th
Students took a 20 question vocabulary quiz on the terms in their glossary of their record books. Once everyone was finished, we graded and scored them, then turned them in.

October 25th
Today was the last day students could turn in late or missing assignments and extra credit. Students played BINGO using all of the terms and definitions we have covered in their record book over this past term. The winner of Bingo and blackout received a prize and all students who played received a treat. Students have a 20 point vocabulary test tomorrow on the vocabulary terms in the glossary in the back of their record book.

October 24th
Students were reminded about the deadline tomorrow for any missing/late work and extra credit. All of this is due into the basket by the end of class tomorrow. They also turned in their signed SEOP form for 25 points on their grade. Anyone who did not turn this in today must turn this in tomorrow with a late pass to get it on their grade. We then reviewed their learning styles, personaility types and abilities and talents. They then rewrote their dream about their future using the knowledge they have gained over the past term. Most students finished this and turned it into the basket. This is officially due tomorrow. Anyone who did not finish was told to do this tonight as homework so that they could turn it in tomorrow.

October 23rd
Students used the spins they earned yesterday for "The Game of Life" today. The winner of each game won a prize. After they played, students answered the questions on "Your Career Choice Should Revolve Around Good Information" in their record books. Their green SEOP paper is due back tomorrow signed by both a parent/guardian and the student. Also, all late work/missing work and extra credit is due Thursday, October 25th at the end of the class period. Students have been warned about this for the past three weeks so no exceptions will be made!

October 22nd
Students will be playing "The Game of Life" tomorrow in class, so today they were earning and counting the amount of spins they will have for tomorrow's game. We used pages CD 13A.4, CD 13A.5 and CD 13A.6 in their record books for this. Also, their SEOP form with a parent/guardian signature is due on Wednesday.

October 19th
Students completed an SEOP questionaire which will be given to the school counselors and placed in their files. Counselors will then use this to help students plan their future courses. These are due back to me by Wednesday, October 24th. Students then caught up on assignments in their record books when we ran out of class time. Mainly, students needed to finish the Career Paths word search and the Career/Interests Preference inventory.

October 18th
Students were reminded about the final due date for extra credit and late/missing assignments on Thursday, October 25th. Nothing will be taken after class on that day. Students answered questions to discover what their dominant learning style is. We then discussed as a class what each learning style was and what learning activities and ways to study are best for each style.

1st and 3rd period CTE Intro classes worked on a "Investigating Interesting Careers" people find. All CTE Intro students had an assembly through half of 5th and all of 6th and 7th periods on Emergency careers presented by the Riverton City Fire Department, as well as a demonstration of a K-9 dog in action by Officer Johnson.

Students discussed poisitive and negative employee traits and how to fill out applications and resumes, as well as how to get letters of recommendations and how to dress for a job interview. Students worked on "A positive attitude = a positive altitude" and "A stellar performance."

October 15th
Students were given a packet entitled "Career Paths" about the five different career pathways. They answered questions about the information on the page "Career Paths - activity 1" in their record books. Some students finished early and started the Career Paths wordsearch activity 2 in their record book. We will finish this another time. CTE students also have an assembly on October 17th during 6th and 7th periods on emergency careers. The Riverton Fire Department will be here along with seven of their vehicles for the students to learn about. Afterwards, we will also have a demonstration from a K-9 police officer and his dog.

Students defined the terms stereotype and non-traditional occupation in their glossary in the back of their record books. Students were then shown a the video "Why Not?" about considering non-traditional careers, as well as characteristics employers are looking for in employees. Students then listed and discussed these common traits and why they are important.

Students had a guest speaker today. Mr. Giron from the counseling office came to discuss non-traditional careers and stereotyping people. Students learned that their mindsets may be keeping them from exploring careers that may interest them because they are considered stereotypically male or female careers.

I gave students reminders about late work cut off dates are two weeks after an assignment is due and they must have a late pass attached or points will be deducted from the score. Also, students were notified that the last day to turn in late or missing assignments and extra credit is OCTOBER 25th DURING class. No assignments or extra credit will be accepted after this day. Students then wrote down the following terms and definitions in their record book: Rejection, tolerance, acceptance and respect. Students then paired up (or they could work on their own) and completed the "Flight plan" in their record book. Before the end of class, answers were given and discussed. This stays in their record book for grading at the end of the term.

Students covered time management principles and discussed ways they could manage their time better. They also listed their activities on the "What makes up my world" page in their record book.

Students read the pamphlet "Learning and Earning" which provides them with information about the average salary differences for High School dropouts, High school graduates, and those with associate's and bachelor's degrees. They also answered questions based on the reading and turned it in for 24 points. This is officially due on Tuesday, October 9th for those students who did not finish and had to take it home for homework.

Students finished the values auction and compared what they had purchased to what they value most in life. We also discussed what happens when you promise to pay and do not have the ability to do so, since some students bid more than they had and had to get money from friends or other students.

October 2nd
Students wrote down the definitions of values, preferences and economic security as it relates to careers. We then started a two-day activity where students can bid on traits, careers, and values they may have in the future. All students were given 2,000 CTE dollars to spend on their bids. At the end of class, we had to stop and collect all materials. Students will pick up tomorrow where we left off. We will then compare the amounts they spent and the choices they made to what they value right now.

Student portfolios were put together for student-led conferences. Students then discussed SCAN skills and completed the page in their record books entitled "Climbing Skills Mountain." We also dicussed passive, agressive, and assertive personalities.
