February 26th
Students had the whole class period to work on their locker pockets and finish their sewing permits. Some students will finish their locker pockets on Monday, but most will finish these on Tuesday or Wednesday. The sewing permits are due Monday at the end of the class period.
February 25th
All of the CTE Intro classes watched the teacher demonstration on how to do their locker pocket project. Many students turned in their CTE sewing permits and started on their locker pocket projects. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by the end of class on Monday or it will be considered late.

February 24th
Students learned how to use the rotary cutters, mats and sergers. Afterwards, they had the rest of class to work on their bookmarks. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by Monday, March 2nd at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

February 23rd
Students reviewed how to thread a machine and then started on their bookmarks. Detailed instructions were provided as well as a teacher demonstration. They will continue these on Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday of this week are also the last days they can retake the "Parts of the sewing machine" quiz. We have offered quiz retakes every day after school this past week.

February 20th
Students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way. Any student who missed this day is highly encouraged to go to the following site and click on the first video on bobbin winding. February 19th
Students worked on their "Crazy Stitching" today (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the six papers they had to chose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit. Tomorrow, students will learn how to wind a bobbin and thread a machine.

February 18th
We took the parts of the sewing machine quiz and students were given their CTE sewing permits to start working on and filling out. Students who passed the quiz with 8 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit. Students who did not pass can come Wednesday,Thursday or Friday of of this week or Tuesday and Wednesday of next week to retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40. We also reviewed safety procedures in the sewing lab.

February 17th
Students learned the parts of the sewing machine and what they are used for. They have to study these parts tonight in preparation for a quiz tomorrow where they will need to be able to identify 8 out of 12 parts of the machine to pass. If they don't pass, they can come after school Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or next Tuesday or Wednesday to retake the quiz. These points will count as points on their sewing permit.

February 12th
The students had a sub today and had a lesson on Peer pressure. Nothing was due or was assigned today. The read a story called "A Bad Case of the Stripes." They should have discussed why people give in to peer pressure and done a couple of activities related to this. I should be feeling better and back at work tomorrow and we will start where we left off in class yesterday.

Students collected their sewing supplies for the upcoming sewing unit and learned about the rules and expectations of their behavior in the sewing lab.

February 11th
Students watched a video on how to care for fabrics and fibers titled "Gone with the wash." They were also given an extra credit assignment on how to iron a camp or dress shirt. Parents get to award the amount of points out of 15 that they feel their student earned. These are due back by the last week of the term.

February 10th
Students were given a second day in the computer lab to finish their "Fabric Online" web quest paper. These are due at the beginning of class on Wednesday. Anyone who didn't finish today was told that this is now homework for tonight.
February 9th
Students researched different fabrics and textiles using a website from ThinkQuest.org titled "Fabric Online". Students were given specific questions to research and find. This assignment is due tomorrow (Tuesday) at the end of their class period.

February 6th
While watching a video on child care safety and childproofing a home, students had to identify at least 5 safety precautions or safety items they currently have at home. Afterwards, students had to analyze 5 ways they can eliminate safety hazards at home. It was worth 10 points and is due at the end of class.
February 5th
The students took their vocabulary test for the family and independent living skills unit. It was 21 terms and definitions to match up and were worth 2 points a piece. There is no redo tests offered on this since we had discussed it so much and told them exactly what would be on the test. We then started the child care safety video, which we will finish tomorrow.
February 4th
Students learned about the "Keys to caregiving" which included physical, emotional and guidance needs. We also discussed child abuse and some off the signs caregivers need to look for. We also discussed their unit vocabulary test, which included specific terms, on Thursday which students need to study for.
February 3rd
We went through the 5 steps of problem solving, which the students had to write down. We then gave some examples of how the problem solving process could be used. We also discussed family traditions, why we have them and what they are, shared some examples of our own family traditions and watched a clip from "Fiddler on the Roof."

Students discussed what a family is, family types and how to set up a family council. We also discussed what will be on their upcoming test on Thursday, February 5th.
