Students learned about the parts to a food label and about the importance of reading food labels to help become better consumers and to become more aware of what is in the foods they are eating.

May 5, 2016

Students were introduced to the foods lab and where told lab expectations and rules, as well as how labs are run and where different things are the lab. Their first cooking lab is on Wednesday of next week.

May 4, 2016

Students learned about how recipes are formatted and why. We also covered the importance of reading through a recipe before beginning and collecting all of the ingredients to make sure they have them all. Students worked as a group on an activity to figure out the names of different types of cooking equipment and the meanings of different cooking terms.

Students used what they learned yesterday about Food borne illnesses to figure out a mystery about how people got food poisoning from a picnic. Students worked together to solve the mystery.

May 2, 2016

Students started learning about food borne illnesses and food safety. We had a demonstration activity and then they watched a few video clips about food safety, careers in food safety and what people usually do wrong in their own kitchens.

April 20th-April 28th

Students will be working on a Project-based learning activity called Cord Mess. They will be working in small teams to create a product that can control messy cords. They have to make a prototype of the product, as well as how to package and market the product. Presentations will be on April 28th.

April 12th-19th, 2016

Students are working their pencil roll-up projects. Students who are behind were told to start coming after school or during diamond time so they can catch-up. Pencil roll pouches are due on Tuesday, April 19th at the end of class.

April 11, 2016

Today, students learned how to thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way.
