April 4, 2014

Students watched a video on how to care for fabrics and fibers titled "Laundry 101." They also had a few questions they had to answer using the information in the video.

April 3, 2014

The students collected their sewing supplies for the upcoming sewing unit and learned about the rules and expectations of their behavior in the sewing lab, as well as how they will be graded and what assignments/projects they will complete during the rest of this unit.

April 2, 2014

The students took a pre-test for the FACS CTE Intro class. It has 25 questions on it with questions from each unit they will have this term. If they missed the pre-test, they will need to make it up. Their end-of-term CTE test will be similar to this test. We then had an activity on the different FACS pathways.

Welcome to the new term and to the Family and Consumer Science (FACS) section of CTE Intro. Today we went through the course description, gave out hall passes and late passes, created a seating chart, and went through where items are in the room, as well as what CTE Intro. is.

March 28, 2014

Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I may have made or computer errors. We discussed their new schedules for next term as well. The Q4 CTE teacher will be their next rotation for CTE and will be their teacher for term/quarter 4. Each class also had a part of the clothing lab that they had to clean.

March 27, 2014

The students took their end-of-term test for the CTE Intro class. It has 40 questions on it with ten questions from each CTE unit they had this term, as well as the different careers the learned about. There is no redo tests offered on this. If they missed or are going to miss the test, it becomes the student's responsibility to arrange a time to come in and take it by March 28th (Friday). This is a firm deadline in order for me to submit grades on time.

Students learned about different jobs and careers in the field on Child Development. They had some questions to complete during class.

March 25, 2014

Students learned about different Child Care and Child Development careers available to them, as well as what child care, day care and family care centers are and what is required to run one. They also had to write down the definitions of a child care center and a family care center. Afterward, students learned about different kinds and types of play teachers use in a preschool and day care setting to teach the children in their care while also playing.

March 24, 2014

Students learned about the "Keys to Caregiving" which included physical, emotional and guidance needs. We also discussed their end-of-term test, which includes questions from each of the three units, which they will take on Thursday, March 27th. Students need to start studying for this test. They were also reminded about review games that are available on my website to help them review for the test.

March 21, 2014

Students discussed the terms independence, freedom and responsibility and how they relate to each other. We then went through the 5 steps of problem solving, which the students had to write down. We then gave some examples of how the problem solving process could be used. We also discussed a few common careers students can go into to help families and members of families deal with problems they may be facing. Today was also the last day they could turn in any late/missing assignments and extra credit for this term.

March 20, 2014

Students learned about and defined social skills, acceptable and unacceptable behavior and manners. They discussed what each one meant and gave examples of each. We then moved on to how this relates to the stereotypes we have and how we treat other people based on those stereotypes.

March 19, 2014

Students learned about the three types of communication, written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language. Also, students were notified that the last day to turn in late or missing assignments and extra credit is March 21st DURING class. No assignments or extra credit will be accepted after this day.

March 14th-18th

Students continued working on their pencil roll-up projects. Students who are behind were told to start coming after school or during diamond time so they can catch-up. Pencil roll pouches are due on Tuesday, March 18th at the end of class.

March 13, 2014

All of the CTE Intro classes watched the teacher demonstration on how to do their pencil roll project. Many students turned in their CTE sewing permits and started on their pencil roll projects. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by the end of class on Friday or it will be considered late.

March 12, 2014

Students learned how to use the rotary cutters, mats and sergers. Afterwards, they had the rest of class to work on their bookmarks. If students were absent, they need to go to my website or youtube channel and watch the video clips from YouTube on how to use a rotary cutter and how to use a serger. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by Friday, March 14th at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

Students reviewed how to thread a machine, read through and watched a demonstration on the instructions for making bookmarks and spent the rest of class time working on their bookmarks.

March 10, 2014

Sorry I was sick all last week, so we are picking up where we left off. We took the parts of the sewing machine quiz. Students who passed the quiz with 9 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit and earned the first 5 points on their permits. Students who did not pass can come after school on Tuesday or Thursday of this week or during Diamond Time tomorrow to retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40.
