June 5, 2014

Today is the last day of school for 7th graders! They will be involved in school end-of-year activities most of the day.

June 4, 2014

The 7th grade students are expected to be in school today. Students cleaned the Sewing lab, and checked and finalized their grades.

June 3, 2014

Students learned about some more FACS related careers, including Interior Design, teaching, etc. They had an assignment to go along with this. We also covered a few more classes students can take at Herriman High in the FACS area.

June 2, 2014

Students had a final for this term to take today on what they have learned about in this section of CTE Intro. This will be scored today and put on their final grade so they can check those tomorrow before grades are finalized.

May 30, 2014

Students learned about different jobs and careers in the field on Child Development. They had some questions to complete during class.

May 28-29, 2014

While watching a video on child care safety and babysitting, students had 11 true/false questions to answer or they could play a safety game to earn points for their team. Afterward, students learned about different kinds and types of play teachers use in a preschool and day care setting to teach the children in their care while also playing.

May 27, 2014

Students learned about the "Keys to Caregiving" which included physical, emotional and guidance needs. We also discussed their end-of-term test, which includes questions from each of the three units, which they will take on Monday, June 2nd. Students need to start studying for this test. They were also reminded about review games that are available on my website to help them review for the test.

May 23, 2014

Students discussed the terms independence, freedom and responsibility and how they relate to each other. We then went through the 5 steps of problem solving, which the students had to write down. We then gave some examples of how the problem solving process could be used. We also discussed a few common careers students can go into to help families and members of families deal with problems they may be facing.

Students turned in their job shadow assignments from yesterday and shared their experiences with other students in the class.

Today is the CTE Intro Job Shadow Day! Most students were at work "on the job" and have a written assignment to complete while they are gone. These will be due tomorrow. Students who stayed were placed into one of three groups and had different career related activities to complete throughout the first half of the day. These were due at the end of each class period when they were done.

Students reviewed expectations of the Job shadow for both students who are going and for those who are staying. Those students who are going were given their assignments and job identification badges. Those students who are staying will receive their badges tomorrow.

Students learned about the three types of communication, written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language.

Students learned about the parts to a food label and about the importance of reading food labels to help become better consumers and to become more aware of what is in the foods they are eating.

Students learned about different careers in foods and nutrition. They also had a fill-in-the-blank worksheet to complete and should have turned this in to the turn-in basket for points. We also talked about Foods classes students can take in 9th-12th grade.

Students had a lab to review measuring and reading a recipe. It was called "Oatmeal munchies" and was worth 50 points on their grade. Any student who was absent for any reason needs to get the recipe from me and make them at home and get the make-up sheet signed by a parent or guardian, then turn it in to the turn-in basket.

Students made the Ramen Noodle stir-fry today. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for any reason for this lab, they must make it up at home and return the make-up sheet signed by a parent and turn it in to the turn-in basket.

Students made a fruit salad today to reinforce their lesson on MyPlate and healthy eating they learned about earlier in the week. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for any reason for this lab, they must make it up at home and return the lab make-up form signed by a parent/guardian to earn the points.
