December 16th

Students were reminded about the open sewing lab today and tomorrow after school to finish their locker pocket projects. They were also reminded about the deadline for extra credit and late work is January 9th. No late work or extra credit will be accepted after this date. Students started learning about food borne illnesses and food safety. They watched "The Great Food Fight" and answered some questions, which we then went over in detail afterward. We will continue this tomorrow.

December 15th

Most of the students watched a video about how cotton fibers are made in to fabrics and what woven, knitted and non-woven fabrics are. While most of the students did this, the few other students who needed to finish their locker pockets were able to do so in another area of the room.

December 12th

Students had one last day in the sewing lab today to finish their locker pocket projects and sewing permits. If a student did not finish, they must now come after school either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week to finish. 1st period will have one more day on Monday to finish their Locker Pockets since they missed one sewing day due to an assembly.

December 11th

Today was the second to the last day students will be in the sewing lab except for 1st period. Locker Pockets are due tomorrow (Friday) by the end of the class period. As students finished their project they were given a choice of things to do. They could help someone else, do an extra credit crossword puzzle on the parts of the sewing machine, read their reading books or work on homework.

Decenber 3rd

The students had a sub today and had a lesson on Peer pressure. Nothing was due or was assigned today. The read a story called "A Bad Case of the Stripes." They should have discussed why people give in to peer pressure and done a couple of activities related to this. I should be feeling better and back at work tomorrow and we will start where we left off in class yesterday.

1st period students did the crazy stitching activity from Tuesday (see December 2nd Blog). 2nd, 5th and 7th period students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way. Any student who missed this day is highly encouraged to go to the following site and click on the first video on bobbin winding. This will help them stay with the rest of the class. Go to: http://familylife.byu.edu/sewingvideos/

December 2nd

1st period took their parts of the sewing machine quiz and discussed safety while Students in 2nd, 5th and 7th worked on their "Crazy Stitching" today (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the six papers they had to chose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit. Tomorrow, students will learn how to wind a bobbin and thread a machine.

December 1st

We did not have 1st period today because of the Sub for Santa assembly. In the other three classes, we took the parts of the sewing machine quiz and students were given their CTE sewing permits to start working on and filling out. Students who passed the quiz with 8 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit. Students who did not pass can come Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of this week only and retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40. We also reviewed safety procedures in the sewing lab.
