Students learned about where different fibers come from and how fibers are made into fabrics. They also learned and what woven, knitted and non-woven fabrics are and how they are produced.
November 5, 2015
Students were give 9 different fabric samples and had to guess what the fabric content of each was. We then tested the samples by burning them to see what the reaction would be and if the students' hypotheses were correct.
November 4, 2015
Students learned the basic parts of the sewing machine and what they are used for. We learned basic sewing safety and then used this information while practicing on the machines.
November 3, 2015
The students took a pre-test for the College and Career Awareness class. If they missed the pre-test, they will need to make it up. We then learned about what a career pathway is and what types of careers fit in what pathways.

Welcome to the new term and to College and Career Awareness. Today we went through the course description, gave out hall passes and late passes, created a seating chart, and went through where items are in the room, as well as what College and career awareness is and what they will be doing his year.

For the first part of class, students learned about careers in the Family and Consumer Science areas and future classes they can take in this area. Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I may have made or computer errors. We also made sure they knew which College and Career Awareness teacher and section they have starting on Monday (2nd term/quarter).

Students had a 25 question post-assessment on what they earned about this term in College and Career Awareness. Afterwards, we finished the presentations from yesterday about the "Cord Mess."
October 22-28, 2015
Students will be working on a Project-based learning activity called Cord Mess. They will be working in small teams to create a product that can control messy cords. They have to make a prototype of the product, as well as how to package and market the product. Presentations will start on the 27th and finish on the 28th.

Students are working their pencil roll-up projects. Students who are behind were told to start coming after school or during diamond time so they can catch-up. Pencil roll pouches are due on Tuesday, October 20th at the end of class.
October 9, 2015
Students learned about some more FACS related careers, including Interior Design, teaching, etc. They had an assignment to go along with this. We also covered a few more classes students can take at Herriman High in the FACS area.
