Today is the last day of school for 7th graders! They will be involved in school end-of-year activities most of the day.

The 7th grade students are expected to be in school today. Students cleaned the Sewing lab, and checked and finalized their grades.
June 2, 2015
Students learned about different Child Care and Child Development careers available to them, as well as what child care, day care and family care centers are and what is required to run one. They also had to write down the definitions of a child care center and a family care center.
June 1, 2015
Today students learned about the importance of learning how to balance family life, work and leisure activities by using time management and organizational skills. We also had a short assessment to see what they have learned from this unit.

Students discussed the terms independence, freedom and responsibility and how they relate to each other. We then went through the 5 steps of problem solving, which the students had to write down. We then gave some examples of how the problem solving process could be used. We also discussed a few common careers students can go into to help families and members of families deal with problems they may be facing.
May 27th-28th, 2015
Students learned about the "Keys to Caregiving" which included physical, emotional and guidance needs. While watching a video on child care safety and babysitting, students had 11 true/false questions to answer or they could play a safety game to earn points for their team. Afterward, students learned about different kinds and types of play teachers use in a preschool and day care setting to teach the children in their care while also playing.

Students learned about the three types of communication, written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language.

Students turned in their job shadow assignments from yesterday and shared their experiences with other students in the class.

Today is the CTE Intro Job Shadow Day! Most students were at work "on the job" and have a written assignment to complete while they are gone. These will be due tomorrow. Students who stayed were placed into one of three groups and had different career related activities to complete throughout the first half of the day. These were due at the end of each class period when they were done.

Students reviewed expectations of the Job shadow for both students who are going and for those who are staying. Those students who are going were given their assignments and job identification badges. Those students who are staying will receive their badges tomorrow.

Students finished their Foods and Nutrition unit today by taking and assessment on what they have learned. We then started our last unit on Families and Child Care, so they started learning about manners and social skills.

Students had a lab to review measuring and reading a recipe. It was called "Oatmeal munchies" and was worth 50 points on their grade. Any student who was absent for any reason needs to get the recipe from me and make them at home and get the make-up sheet signed by a parent or guardian, then turn it in to the turn-in basket.

Students learned about the parts to a food label and about the importance of reading food labels to help become better consumers and to become more aware of what is in the foods they are eating.

Students learned about different jobs and careers in the field of Foods and Nutrition. They had some questions to complete during class. Their career research paper on a career in the foods and nutrition industry was also due today.

Students made the Ramen Noodle stir-fry today. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for any reason for this lab, they must make it up at home and return the make-up sheet signed by a parent and turn it in to the turn-in basket.

Students made a fruit salad today to reinforce their lesson on MyPlate and healthy eating they learned about earlier in the week. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for any reason for this lab, they must make it up at home and return the lab make-up form signed by a parent/guardian to earn the points.

Students watched a video about MyPlate, which took the place of the MyPyramid three years ago. We discussed the changes which have taken place and how students could change their diets to align more closely to the plate. The students also had some true and false questions to work on during the last few minutes of class, but was not turned in for points.
