All seventh graders went to a CTE assembly in the morning where they learned about some careers from parents of students in the law enforcement and medical career fields. They saw firefighters take apart a car as if it were an emergency situation and learned a little bit about a fire fighters' job. A parent who works for the Bureau of Criminal investigation talked about some of the jobs done within their department (criminal records, training of law enforcement, etc.) Another parent shared with us a video about nursing and the great opportunities and satisfaction that being a nurse has.
Classes in the afternoon (5th and 7th period) read through an informational pamphlet about the benefits of education as it relates to careers. As they read, they answered questions about college, college expenses and income. This was an assignment they turned in at the end of class (only 5th and 7th period.)
