April 29th

Students learned about how recipes are formatted and why. We also covered the importance of reading through a recipe before beginning and collecting all of the ingredients to make sure they have them all.

April 28th

Students were introduced to the foods lab and where told lab expectations and rules, as well as how labs are run and where different things are the lab. Their first cooking lab is on Tuesday and is the fruit freeze.

April 27th

Students started learning about food borne illnesses and food safety. They watched "The Great Food Fight" and answered some questions, which we then went over and graded and discussed afterward. We also discussed food safety when cooking at home and focused on cross-contamination.

April 26th

Students had one last day to work on their sewing projects before we start on the Foods and Nutirtion unit tomorrow. Anyone who did not finish can come in tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday of this week after school to finish.

April 20th

Students had the whole class period to work on their locker pockets. Most students will finish their locker pockets today. I will see how many students are not finished and if there are enough to warrent another day in the lab. There will also be some make-up days after school next week for anyone who did not finish in class.

Students had the whole class period to work on their locker pockets. Some students will finish their locker pockets today, but they will also have tomorrow to finish these. Some students had CRTs, so they will start tomorrow wherever they left off on Friday.

April 15th

Students watched the teacher demonstration of the locker pocket project. They were then given the rest of the class period to finish their bookmarks and start on their locker pockets.

April 14th

Students watched the teacher demonstration of the locker pocket project. They were then given the rest of the class period to finish their bookmarks and start on their locker pockets.

April 13th

Students had a sub, so they played the "Game of Life," the board game, seeing some of the things that may happen in real life. They answered questions on a sheet about some of the things that happened to them during the game and turned it in at the end of class for points.

April 12th

Students learned about different careers in clothing and textiles. They also had a fill-in-the-blank worksheet to complete and should have turned this in to the turn-in basket for points.

April 11th

Students learned how to use the rotary cutters, mats and sergers. Afterwards, they had the rest of class to work on their bookmarks. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by Thursday, April 14th at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

April 8th

Students reviewed how to thread a machine, read through and watched a demonstration on the instruction for making bookmarks and spent the rest of class time working on their bookmarks.

April 7th

Students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way. Any student who missed this day is highly encouraged to go to the following site and click on the first video on bobbin winding. April 6th

Students took their "Parts of the sewing machine quiz" today. If they passed it with 8 or more correct, they stapled it to their sewing permit and have now earned 5 points towards their 50 points possible on their sewing permit. If they didn't pass, they can come Thursday or Friday after school for retakes. Students then worked on their "Crazy Stitching" (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the seven papers/patterns they had to choose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit. If they didn't finish today, they will have time to complete them on Friday.

April 5th

We finished learning the parts of the sewing machines in preparation for their "Parts of the sewing machine quiz" tomorrow. Students then worked on their "Crazy Stitching" (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the seven papers/patterns they had to choose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit. If they didn't finish today, they will have time to complete them on Friday.

April 4th

Students learned about half of the parts of the sewing machine and what they are used for. We will finish identifying the parts on Tuesday in preparation for a quiz on Wednesday on 12 different parts of the sewing machines. They will then use this information while practicing on the machines, as well as winding bobbins and threading the machines next Thursday.
