We discussed what a family is, as well as identifying different family types. They also watched a video about the functions of a family, no matter what type of family they have.

January 28th
Students finished watching the video on Child Care safety. We then had an activity were I taught them different stress reducer activities and they got to practice these during class time.
January 27th
I had to quickly leave yesterday due to a death in my family. 4th and 7th period had some terms and definitions to write down and watched a video on stress. Today, they watched part of a video on child care safety. We will finish this later when we have time. Their assignment for this was to write on their own piece of paper 5 things they already do around their house to make it safer and 5 things they could start doing to improve safety around their home. Then the need to turn this into the basket.

January 26th
Today, students learned about stress, stressors, distress and stress reducers. All of the terms were defined, explained and discussed as a group. The notes/definitions will be used on the independent living skills unit test which will be given on February 5th.
January 25th
Students learned about six different poor communication techniques and six good communication techniques to help create effective communication with others. The students need to keep these notes with them for the end of unit test.

January 22nd
Students discussed attentive listening, as well as what attentive listening looks, feels and sounds like as well as what it doesn't look, feel and sound like. They also had an activity on attentive listening.

January 21st
Students were given their assigned seats. Then, students learned about the three types of communication; written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language.
January 20th
Welcome to the new term and to the Family and Consumer Science (FACS) section of CTE Intro. Today we went through the course description, gave out hall passes and late passes, created a seating chart, and went through where items are in the room, as well as what CTE Intro. is.

January 15th
Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I may have made or computer errors. We discussed their new schedules for next term as well. The Q3 CTE teacher will be their next rotation for CTE and will be their teacher for term/quarter 3. Each class also had a part of the clothing lab that they had to clean.
January 14th
The students took their vocabulary test for the family and independent living skills unit. It was 24 terms and definitions to match up and they were worth 2 points a piece. There is no redo tests offered on this since we had discussed it so much and told them exactly what would be on the test and since it is the end of the term. They also turned in their starter sheets from this week.
January 13th
Students learned about the "Keys to Caregiving" which included physical, emotional and guidance needs. We also discussed their unit vocabulary test, which included specific terms and definitions, which they will take on tomorrow which students need to study for tonight.

January 12th
We went through the 5 steps of problem solving, which the students had to write down. We then gave some examples of how the problem solving process could be used. We also discussed family traditions, why we have them and what they are, shared some examples of our own family traditions and watched a clip from "Fiddler on the Roof" about traditions.

Students started class by having a starter and starting a new Starter sheet for this week. We discussed what a family is, as well as identifying different family types. They also watched a video about the functions of a family, no matter what type of family they have.

January 8th
Today was the last day students could turn in any late/missing work and any extra credit for this term. Their SEOP forms and reports were also due and students who had to finish their Personal labels bag from yesterday had to turn those in as well. Students learned about and defined social skills, acceptable and unacceptable behavior and manners. They discussed what each one meant and gave examples of each. We then moved on to how this relates to friendships and finding good friends.
January 7th
The classes learned the definition of the term self-concept and we discussed ways that we can raise others self-concept as well as our own. Students then discussed how advertisers come up with packaging for products and how the way we present ourselves to others is like packaging ourselves to others. Students then created a package from a lunch sack that represents themselves and uses positive labels instead of negative. These are due at the start of class tomorrow (Friday, January 8th) at the start of class.

January 6th
Today, students learned about stress reducers. I provided a number of different stress reducers and the class shared ways they prefer to reduce their stress. The class also practiced visual relaxation techniques during the last few minutes of class using a prerecorded relaxation tape.
