Students had one last day in the sewing lab today to finish their locker pocket projects and sewing permits. If a student did not finish, they must now come after school either today or tomorrow to finish.

Today was the second to the last day students will be in the sewing lab. Locker Pockets are due tomorrow (Tuesday) by the end of the class period. As students finished their project they were given a choice of things to do. They could help someone else, do an extra credit crossword puzzle on the parts of the sewing machine, read their reading books or work on homework.

May 28th

Students had the whole class period to work on their locker pockets and finish their sewing permits. Some students will finish their locker pockets on Monday, but most will finish these on Tuesday. The sewing permits are due today at the end of the class period.

All of the CTE Intro classes watched the teacher demonstration on how to do their locker pocket project. Many students turned in their CTE sewing permits and started on their locker pocket projects. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by the end of class on Thursday or it will be considered late.

Students reviewed how to thread a machine and then started on their bookmarks. Detailed instructions were provided as well as a teacher demonstration. They will continue these on Tuesday. Today was also the last day they could retake the "Parts of the sewing machine" quiz. We have offered quiz retakes every day after school this past week.

May 21st

Students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way. Any student who missed this day is highly encouraged to go to the following site and click on the first video on bobbin winding. This will help them stay with the rest of the class. Go to: http://familylife.byu.edu/sewingvideos/

May 20th

Students worked on their "Crazy Stitching" today (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the six papers they had to chose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit. Tomorrow, students will learn how to wind a bobbin and thread a machine.

May 19th

We took the parts of the sewing machine quiz and students were given their CTE sewing permits to start working on and filling out. Students who passed the quiz with 8 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit. Students who did not pass can come Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of of this week to retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40. We also reviewed safety procedures in the sewing lab.

May 18th

Students learned the parts of the sewing machine and what they are used for. They have to study these parts tonight in preparation for a quiz tomorrow where they will need to be able to identify 8 out of 12 parts of the machine to pass. If they don't pass, they can come after school Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of this week to retake the quiz. These points will count as points on their "Sewing Permit."

Students watched a video on how to care for fabrics and fibers titled "Gone with the wash." They were also given an extra credit assignment on how to iron a camp or dress shirt. Parents get to award the amount of points out of 15 that they feel their student earned. These are due back by the last week of the term.

May 8th

Students watched a video about My Pyramid, which took the place of the food guide pyramid a few years ago. We discussed the changes which have taken place and students could change their diets to align more closely to the pyramid. The students also had a word search to work on during the last few minutes of class, but was not turned in for points. During 7th period, we had a CTE Intro assembly, so they did not have class.

May 6th

Students had a lab to review measuring and reading a recipe. It was called "Oatmeal munchies" and was worth 50 points on their grade. Any student who was absent needs to get the recipe from me and make them at home and get the recipe signed by a parent or guardian, then turn it in sometime before the end of the term so that this can be placed on their grade.

May 5th

Students learned about the parts to a food label and about the importance of reading food labels to help become better consumers and to become more aware of what is in the foods they are eating.
