March 31st
Students learned about the three types of communication; written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language.

March 30th
Welcome to the new semester! Students reviewed the disclosure and course content of the Family and Consumer Sciences portion of CTE Intro. All students were also given hall and late passes for this term. They will receive assigned seats tomorrow and we will be starting with the Family and Independent living skills unit.

March 26th
Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I may have made or computer errors. We discussed their new schedules for next term as well. The Q4 CTE teacher will be their last rotation for CTE and will be their teacher for term/quarter 4. They also watched a video on the top ten fun food factories.

We discussed different types of careers in the area of foods and nutrition, such as food scientists who work at Ben and Jerry's and we watched a video on Food Science Careers.

March 24th
Students made the Ramen Noodle stir-fry today. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for this lab, they must make it up by Thursday, March 26th in order for me to get the points on their grade before the end of the term.

March 23rd
Students watched a video about My Pyramid, which took the place of the food guide pyramid a few years ago. We discussed the changes which have taken place and students could change their diets to align more closely to the pyramid. The students also had a word search to work on during the last few minutes of class, but was not turned in for points.

March 20th
Students had a lab to review measuring and reading a recipe. It was called "Oatmeal munchies" and was worth 50 points on their grade. Any student who was absent needs to get the recipe from me and make them at home and get the recipe signed by a parent or guardian, then turn it in sometime before next Thursday so that this can be placed on their grade.

March 19th
Students made a fruit salad today using their cooking terms and pieces of equipment they learned about on Monday. The lab was worth 50 points. If a student was absent for this lab, they must make it up in the next week (by the 25th) in order for me to get the points on their grade before the end of the term. Today was also the last day to turn in any missing/late work and extra credit, including unused late and hall passes. They have been reminded about this every day for the past two weeks.

March 18th
Students learned about the parts to a food label and about the importance of reading food labels to help become better consumers and to become more aware of what is in the foods they are eating. They were also reminded that all missing/late/absent work is due tomorrow as well as all extra credit, which includes any unused late and hall passes.

March 17th
Students made Vanishing Breakfast Biscuits to help reinforce our lesson from Friday about the importance off reading recipes. Any student who was absent must make the lab at home and return the recipe signed by a parent stating that their student did the assignment.
March 16th
Students worked as a group on an activity to figure out the names of different types of cooking equipment and the meanings of different cooking terms. The answers were provided at the end of class so students could see how they did. The last day to turn in late work and extra credit is Thursday, March 19th.

March 13th
Students learned about how recipes are formatted and why. We also covered the importance of reading through a recipe before beginning and collecting all of the ingredients to make sure they have all of the ingredients. Students had a word-search on the eight points of a good recipe to turn in for 16 points. Most turned it in at the end of class.
March 12th
Students used their measuring skills while making Fruit freezes. They had to demonstrate proper lab procedures and hygiene as well. Students who were not here today (for any reason) will have to make the lab at home and return a note signed by a parent saying their student made the lab in order to make-up the missing points. Students were also reminded of the upcoming deadline for late work and extra credit, which is Thursday, March 19th.

Students watched a video titled "Measuring Math" which demonstrated how to measure different ingredients and the importance of measuring correctly. The students will demonstrate what they learned when measuring out ingredients in future cooking labs.

Students were introduced to the foods lab and where told lab expectations and rules, as well as how labs are run and where different things are the lab. Their first cooking lab is on Thursday and is the fruit freeze.

We finished discussing food safety today by reviewing the top ten mistakes people make when preparing food at home and what the students can do to prevent these mistakes from occurring.

March 6th
Students were reminded about the open sewing lab Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week after school to finish their locker pocket projects. Students started learning about food borne illnesses and food safety. They watched "The Great Food Fight" and answered some questions, which we then went over and graded and discussed afterward. We will continue this topic on Monday.

March 5th
Students learned about some of the new technology being developed for our homes. We read "Life in a very cool lab" which students had to turn in the questions from. 7th period had an assembly during there class period, so they did not do this assignment.
March 4th
Students had one last day in the sewing lab today to finish their locker pocket projects and sewing permits. If a student did not finish, they must now come after school either today or tomorrow to finish.

March 3rd
Today was the second to the last day students will be in the sewing lab. Locker Pockets are due tomorrow (Wednesday) by the end of the class period. As students finished their project they were given a choice of things to do. They could help someone else, do an extra credit crossword puzzle on the parts of the sewing machine, read their reading books or work on homework.

March 2nd
Students had the whole class period to work on their locker pockets and finish their sewing permits. Some students will finish their locker pockets on Monday, but most will finish these on Tuesday or Wednesday. The sewing permits were due today at the end of the class period.
