April 30th

Students learned about the three types of communication; written, verbal and non-verbal. They also watched a video clip of each type of communication to help them remember the three types. We also discussed the importance of listening to others and watching their body language.

April 28th

Students learned about some of the new technology being developed for our homes. We read "Life in a very cool lab" which students had to turn in the questions from.

April 29th

The class discussed new technology in fabrics and fibers which consumers, athletics and the military are using for different purposes. The students did have to turn in their "Life in a very cool lab" questions if they didn't yesterday.

April 25th

Students had one last day in the sewing lab today to finish their locker pocket projects and sewing permits. If a student did not finish, they must now come after school either Tuesday or Thursday of next week to finish.

April 24th

Today was the second to the last day students will be in the sewing lab. Locker Pockets are due tomorrow by the end of the class period. As students finished their project they were given a choice of things to do. they could help someone else, do an extra credit crossword puzzle on the parts of the sewing machine, read their reading books or worked on homework.

Students had the whole class period to work on their locker pockets and finish their sewing permits. Some students will finish these tomorrow, but most will finish these on Thursday or Friday.

April 22nd

April 21st

All of the CTE Intro classes watched the teacher demonstration on how to do their locker pocket project. Many students turned in their CTE sewing permits and started on their locker pocket projects. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by the end of class on Tuesday at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

April 18th

Students learned how to use the rotary cutters, mats and sergers. Afterwards, they had thee rest of class to work on their bookmarks. Today is the last day to make up the Parts of the sewing machine quiz and they must be here by 2:40. All CTE Sewing Permits are due to me by Monday at the end of each class period or it will be considered late.

April 17th

The classes learned the definition of the term self-concept and we discussed ways that we can raise others self-concept as well as our own. Students then discussed how advertisers come up with packaging for products and how the way we present ourselves to others is like packaging ourselves to others. Students then created a package from a lunch sack that represents themsleves and uses positive labels instead of negative. These are due at the start of class tomorrow (Friday).

April 16th

Students reviewed how to thread a machine and then started on their bookmarks. Detailed instructions were provided as well as a teacher demonstration. They will continue these on Friday.

April 15th

Students learned how to wind a bobbin and thread a sewing machine by watching a teacher demonstration and doing it on their machines while I walked them through it. Students were encouraged to help each other along the way.

April 14th

Students worked on their "Crazy Stitching" today (Stitching on paper). They had to complete three out of the six papers they had to chose from. They then had to attach these three papers to their CTE Sewing Permit. Tomorrow, students will learn how to wind a bobbin and thread a machine.

April 11th

We took the parts of the sewing machine quiz and students were given their CTE sewing permits to start working on and filling out. Students who passed the quiz with 8 out of 12 correct or better stapled the quiz to their CTE sewing permit. Students who did not pass can come Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday or Friday of next week and retake it. They must be in the classroom and ready for the quiz by 2:40. We also reviewed safety procedures in the sewing lab.

April 10th

Students learned the parts of the sewing machine and what they are used for. They have to study these parts tonight in preparation for a quiz tomorrow where they will need to be able to identify 8 out of 12 parts of the machine to pass.

April 9th

Students collected their sewing supplies for the upcoming sewing unit and learned about the rules and expectations of their behavior in the sewing lab.

April 8th

Students had a sub today. They watched "Cypher in the Snow" and wrote about someone they know who has been left out and forgotten. They also had to share something about themselves that no own else knows.

April 7th

Students watched a video on how to care for fabrics and fibers titled "Gone with the wash." They were also given an extra credit assignment on how to iron a camp or dress shirt. Parents get to award the amount of points out of 15 that they feel their student earned. These are due back by the last week of the term.

April 4th

Students graded their "Fabric Online" papers while we discussed the different types of fibers and fabrics. These were then turned into the basket so I could record their scores.

April 3rd

Students were given a second day in the computer lab to finish their Fabric online web quest paper. These are due at the beginning of class tomorrow and will be graded tomorrow as well. Anyone who didn't finish today were told that this now becomes homework for tonight.

Students researched different fabrics and textiles using a website from ThinkQuest.org. Students were given specific questions to research and find. This assignment is due Friday at the beginning of their class period.

April 1st

Welcome to the last term! Students reviewed the disclosure and course content of the Family and Consumer Sciences portion of CTE Intro. They all received hall passes and late passes. We will be starting the clothing and textiles unit tomorrow and we will be meeting in the P207 computer lab on Wednesday and Thursday.
